Motivation
Cerebral collateral circulation has major impact on the pathophysiology of cerebral ischemia and therefore also on the clinical outcome of ischemic stroke. In case of a failure of the principal conduits, a network of vascular channels maintains the cerebral blood flow. However, detailed knowledge of collateral circulation and the environmental impact remains mainly unknown. Methods
Computational modeling provides unique opportunities to analyze the behaviour of cerebral blood flow in case of an ischemic stroke and to examine the role of the cerebral collateral circulation in more detail.Aim of this work
Identification of the influence of gender and age on average dimensions of the Circle of Willis. Analysis of resulting changes in cerebral hemodynamics using a computational blood flow model.
