In this work, the mathematical description of the mitral valve implemented in the lumped element circulatory system model will be evaluated and improved. This is necessary, as the current mathematical description is derived from aortic valve measurement data.
Therefore, a simplified model of the circulatory system, only comprising left atrium, mitral valve, aortic valve and left ventricle will be implemented. Assuming different pressures in the atrium, the pressure in the ventricle will be simulated.
Subsequently the results of the mechanic simulation will be used as the basis for fluid dynamics simulation. Comparing the fluid simulation pressure results to the mechanic simulation, the valve model will be evaluated and the parameters of the mitral valve description will be optimized.
